Internet Marketing and Computers for Your Business
Computers go hand in hand with an Internet Marketing buisness venture.
Is Your Computer Ready for Your Internet Business?
Owning a reliable computer is probably the most important thing for your internet based business, whether you are selling your product on-line, telecommuting or running an affiliate marketing business. You need a good working computer. If your computer dies, you’re out of business, at least for the time it takes for repairs or replacement.
First of all, you don’t need the latest and greatest equipment. As long as you already own a computer that is reasonably current and compatible with your marketing or other business software, you don’t need an expensive replacement. You can always buy a big fancy computer when the money from your internet business starts coming in.
Some of the things that you should check on your existing computer are:
· Internet Connection -To avoid frustration, your internet connection should be reliable and fairly fast. You don’t want your connection to drop out in the middle of a project or video. And, there’s nothing worse than constantly having to wait for things to load.
· Operating System -Make sure you update your operating system with the current files. Your system can set up your computer to do this automatically on a regular schedule.
· Hard Drive Space -Check your hard drive capacity. If your hard drive is full, you cannot download business materials. You will need to get a hard drive with more storage space or a second drive, either internal or external. These are readily available on-line or at retail stores.
· Virus Protection and Firewall -Make sure you have good virus protection and a firewall. If you do not, there are many companies that offer online sales and they are available at stores that sell computers or you can download them directly from vendor sites online.
· Software Compatibility -Check your word processing, graphics and video software for compatibility with your business and also for updates. If you do not have any of these, consult with your company before you buy to see what, if any, they recommend.
· Video Player Software-Many sites on the internet use Flash Player, from Adobe, or QuickTime, from Apple, for instructional and other videos that your internet business might send to you. The download for these video players is free. If your business is using these, make sure you have them and they are current.
· System Maintenance -Most computers will have a system maintenance program built-in that will scan for hard drive and memory errors. Make sure these scans are scheduled to run regularly to keep your computer in optimum condition.
· UPS or Uninterruptible Power Supply -It’s very important to have a UPS in case of power outage, dips or surge. Any of these events can corrupt your system. The battery in a UPS will keep your computer on for a limited time in case of a power outage. This will allow you to save any project you are working on and shut down your computer properly.
If you find that your computer is not suitable for the job you will be doing or is just too old and outdated, now is the time to buy a new one.
Computers don’t cost a fortune anymore. Nearly everyone can afford to buy a computer that has reasonable speed and storage capacity and financing plans are readily available if you need to make payments. It is advisable to consult with your internet business associates so that you can get an idea of what features will benefit you the most before you buy a computer. There are a couple of options for you when you’re ready to buy. All the major manufacturers have websites where you can order your equipment with the customizations you need. Keep in mind that, in general, the more bells and whistles you order for your computer, the more it will cost. The other option is to buy a ready-made computer in person, from the retailer of your choice.
If you don’t know a thing about hard drives and memory and operating systems, but you need a new computer, there are people to help you. Depending on your budget, you can get a computer at most discount department stores and super centers. If you have a bit more to spend, an electronics store or a business that specializes in computers might be your best bet. Whichever option you choose the sales people are usually very knowledgeable and will be happy to recommend the best equipment for you.
For those of you that want to be certain you have the right computer set up and that the configuration is correct, you can always hire a computer service expert to come into your home and check your existing system out or set up a new system for you. They will even set up your internet connection and install a home network for you if you so desire. There are many offering these services and they are listed in your local phone directory.
With your computer up and running reliably, you can focus more of your attention on running your internet business more efficiently.

I have used pc computers all of my life. I have never known anyone who uses a Mac. I hear a lot of great things about Macs but because I have used Pc computers for so long I can not imagine making the switch now. Pc computers may not be designed to work with different media such as imaging and sound files like Macs are. I do not use my computer for much more than word processing or Internet surfing so I do not need a media-friendly computer.

I spend a lot of my time creating projects and papers on my computer and if I could not use Microsoft Word on a Mac I would never buy one. I have become reliant on Microsoft systems and if they are not compatible with Macs, I am not compatible with Macs.
